Polk Parkway Sunpass

Polk Parkway Sunpass Challenge

This project was a continuation of the Florida Turnpike’s effort to modernize its’ Toll Collection Facilities to electronic tolling and video security systems and David Nelson Construction’s third Sunpass Challenge project. Fourteen ramp plaza locations and two mainline plazas were successfully updated without impacting the flow of traffic or the collection of tolls.  Elements of work included toll equipment for dual Sunpass dedicated lanes, demolition, concrete work, minor road work, storm drainage, structural steel work, advanced and canopy signs, electrical work, security cameras, paint marking and maintenance of traffic.  Despite the normal project delays, we were able to complete the project for less than the original contract amount and within the allowable contract time.
