Our History
David Nelson Construction Co. started in 1972, grading sites for modular homes and quickly grew to small parking lots and municipal projects.
In the early 1980’s we built our first F.D.O.T. project, built many mid-size local roads and added building construction services to facilitate the construction of the Lowry Park Zoo. By the late 1980’s, we were the prime contractor for many sewer and water treatment plants, mass transit facilities, streetscapes, parks and athletic facilities in addition to our roadway construction. We also teamed with the City of Tampa to construct the first design-build roadway project in the bay area, the Bayshore Blvd. Realignment.
During the 1990’s, we built many large commercial sites and sub-divisions as well as City, County and F.D.O.T. projects such as the widening and reconstruction of nearly six miles of US 19 in Pasco County and we completed nearly all of the building construction for District 7 of the F.D.O.T.
Over the past 15 years we have continued to branch out in the type, scope and size of projects constructed. In addition to countless roadway projects of all sizes, including widening of 2.5 miles of I-275 in Tampa, reconstruction of 2 miles of SR 54 in Pasco County and 4 miles of Keystone Road in Pinellas County, we have completed site work projects for commercial retail, schools and hospitals, city streetscapes and parks as well as major runway paving and repair projects for Tampa International Airport and MacDill Air Force Base. In addition, we have focused more on the design build aspect of the industry, completing site, roadway, utility and building projects and recently served as the construction manager on the renovations of the Innisbrook Golf & Spa Resort.
