Sunshine Skyway Rest Area Replacement & Seawall Repairs
This design-build project consists of the construction of two 6,000 SF rest area buildings with site amenities as well as the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the seawall cap along the Manatee Rest Area including riprap slope stabilization. This is a lump sum contract with the FDOT.
DNCC has a Contractor Past Performance Rating on this project of 100%.
Both rest area sites include milling and resurfacing of the existing parking lots, new road base and asphalt pavement, sidewalks and concrete flatwork, utility connections, site lighting and site amenities such as benches, bike racks, and picnic pavilions. The Pinellas Rest Area additionally required retrofitting the existing lift station with new pumps and motors and coating the existing wet well.
Seawall improvements for this project include 3750 linear feet of new seawall cap along the Manatee fishing access road as well as the FDOT ITS facility adjacent to I-275. Additionally, 21,000 tons of rip rap rubble are being placed along the seawall for slope stabilization and there are 1800 linear feet of epoxy injection to cracks in the existing seawall. Maintenance of traffic elements for these items of work include FDOT shoulder closures. Special consideration to erosion control and turbidity measures is required as we are working in Outstanding Florida Waters to perform the slope stability and seawall improvements.
